The OG Air Jordan 1 ‘Chicago’ is Due to Release This Year
Originally released in 1985, designed by Peter Moore, the Air Jordan 1 stands as one of the greatest silhouettes of all time with the ‘Chicago’ colourway being recognised as the greatest colourway of all.
With the growth of sneaker culture, so too has the love and respect for the Air Jordan 1. With new colourways releasing regularly, a new aged version of the classic look worn by Michael during his time with the Chicago Bulls is slated for a release later in the year.
Following the last re-release in 2015, rumours began to swirl following a post by Sneaker Files suggesting that a retro was on its way. With initial sources seeming to suggest that it was simply the original colourway releasing, sources including mr_unloved1s and zSneakerHeadz have since reported that it’s a new ‘Reimagined’ design of the Chicago colourway fans can expect to see.
With Nike looking at new ways to present their classic models, taking cues from the artists in the culture, the upcoming 2022 release is said to have a pre-aged design to mimic that of a sneaker that has been stored poorly. Vintage style materials and packaging with the classic extras including postcards will be included within the release. However, the OG will take a slightly new shape.
With the ‘Reimagined’ colourway and materials also comes updated details to the upper including a brand new, improved, toebox and overall shape of the sneaker. While recent releases of the Air Jordan 1 such as the ‘Court Purple’ and ‘Georgetown’ colourways utilise the ‘85 cut with a higher ankle support that is closer to the OG shape, the official new shape of the Air Jordan 1 is yet to be seen.
Similar to the ‘Reimagined’ Air Jordan 1 ‘Chicago’, Jordan Brand are also set to release the Air Jordan 3 ‘Desert Elephant’. With initial rumours and images of the colourway were reminiscent of their original counterpart from 1988, the official images have provided a far different design. With this in mind, it’s important to note that until official images are released, we can’t be sure what the final product will look like.
Nevertheless, one thing is for certain, the Air Jordan 1 ‘Chicago’ is set to be one of the biggest releases of recent memory, let alone 2022.
